Sims 4 Building Tips & FAQ

Welcome! Here are some quick answers to common building questions I get, plus a few tips to help you build smarter (or at least struggle a little less).

🧱 How do I build a house like yours?

Practice, patience, and the undo button. I build one lot a week and experiment with different styles until something clicks. Don’t be afraid to start ugly — you’ll learn what works by trial and error.

🎮 What camera or game mode do you use to build?

I always build in Build Mode with The Sims 4 camera turned on. Some Sims 4 builders prefer the Sims 3 camera. It gives more control over angles, especially when placing objects or rotating in tight spaces. You can switch in Game Options > Controls & Camera. I frequently use the Top View camera for builds. Short cut is “T” to turn it on and off.

🏠 Why won’t my walls place correctly?

If walls aren’t snapping into place:

  • Make sure you’re not in basement or foundation view

  • Try toggling Grid View (G key) on and off

  • Check if bb.moveobjects is interfering with placement (turn it off, place your wall, then turn it back on)

🧰 What are your go-to build cheats?

  • bb.moveobjects: Allows free placement of items

  • bb.showhiddenobjects: Unlocks debug items

  • bb.showliveeditobjects: More decor and landscaping objects

  • Shift + [ or ]: Resize objects

  • Alt (while placing): Freely rotate or move objects off-grid

💡 Why does my lighting look bad?

Try this:

  • Use white or warm-toned lights (cool lights can wash everything out)

  • Add lights behind walls or in hidden spots to brighten without harsh shadows

  • Place windows strategically — natural light makes a huge difference

  • Don’t place too many lights in one room.

🎨 How do you pick your color palettes?

I choose to 2-3 base colors and build around that. Usually 2 neutrals or 2 shades of the same color and an accent color. I also use rugs, art, and clutter to tie rooms together if it starts to look random. Choosing the same wood tone throughout the build helps a lot too.

📁 Where can I download your builds?

Search BleueChatte in The Sims 4 Gallery — all of my builds are uploaded there! Or follow along on TikTok to see the speed builds in action.
